Trip Around the World

Before we turn 40, May and I intend to take one year off and travel around the world, on a Pilatus PC-12 NG. This trip would take us to well over 100 destinations, flying along the coast of most continents. Here is the map of our itinerary as it is currently planned. Make sure to click on the ‘Next’ link at the bottom of the left column in order to get the trip’s last waypoints. You can also view the trip using Google Earth. If you’ve been to some of these places, please let us know the sites we should not miss there.

Hi Ismael,

What a terrific plan and dream! Make sure you and May will stop by in Tokyo, and take some rest to re-energize before going to the next destination.

Ciao

That plan looks challenging and exciting. And no doubt you’ll do it, too, which is incredible!

Jared,

What makes you think I’ll actually do it?

Just curious…

Ismael,

I remember contacting you a few years ago when Office 2.0 was just getting started. And I look now at some of what you’ve been up to, how much your message has amplified.

Financially I can’t speak to what a trip like this would cost (I’m not a pilot), and I know that must present a tall barrier. I can’t speak to your finances. But I see you as capable of taking the time off, and I see you as following through on a dream that combines your passions and meets yet another goal.

What you’re doing now is the first real step toward following through, telling people about it. Eventually the inertia of having to stay accountable alone can pull one through these sorts of things.

Jared,

You’re a wise man.

Your business must be taking off… a PC-12 NG, huh? My first suggestion would be to get May her own license and IFR certification… Not sure if single-pilot complex flying around the world is perfect if you mostly end up on strips you’ve never seen before… Either way, I envy you!

Matthias,

May will definitely get her license beforehand. And remember: this is a long term project. There is no way I could afford even renting such an aircraft for a year today. But in the future, who knows? Dreams are free…

Cheers!
