More Flying

Today, Eliot and I practiced for my upcoming checkride (May 1st) and flew the GPS Runway 29R (GPS RWY 29R) and the VOR Runway 29 Right (VOR RWY 29R) approaches in Stockton (KSNS), followed by the ILS Runway 25 Right (ILS RWY 25R) in Livermore (KLVK). The GPS approach was done with partial panel, simulating a failure of the Primary Flight Display (PFD), which has become a routine procedure by now. We logged 1.9 hours, including 1.7 hours of simulated instruments.

Back in the Air

After being grounded for two months for an engine replacement, N824JA is back on line, and I could resume my IFR training today. I practiced the GPS Runway 30 (RNAV RWY 30) in Byron (C83) and the ILS Runway 25 Right (ILS RWY 25R) in Livermore (KLVK). I logged 1.9 hours, including 1.7 hours of simulated instruments. After two months with no IFR flying, I was a little bit afraid that I would have a lot to catch up with, but everything came back together pretty nicely, and it sure feels good to be back in the air.

The Good Shepherd

Tonight, May and I watched The Good Shepherd [IMDB], a movie directed by Robert De Niro and starring Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Alec Baldwin, and actor/director Robert De Niro. This spy movie tells the story of the creation of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and is relatively convincing. All in all, a pretty entertaining flick.

Children of Men

Tonight, May and I watched Children of Men [IMDB], a rather unconvincing movie directed by Alfonso CuarĂ³n and starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, and the excellent Michael Caine. This flick is reminiscent of another post-apocalyptic movie also taking place in Great Britain — 28 Days Later [IMDB] — and is similarly disappointing. The plot takes too long to unfold, and the story goes nowhere.

New Office Space

In order to reduce commute time for everybody, Intalio has decided to move its offices from Redwood City to Palo Alto and San Francisco. I will be in the Palo Alto office, and just found some space for it in downtown Palo Alto. Our move is scheduled for the end of May. As part of this relocation project, we will try to adopt many new Office 2.0 technologies. This should be fun…

500GB of Flash

Today, I received 500 1GB flash drives pre-loaded with the ThinkFree Office 2.0 suite of applications, as part of a marketing program I am running for IT|Redux. Carrying 500GB of flash memory around feels a little bit strange. I am supposed to give the drives away to bloggers willing to review the ThinkFree suite, so if you have a blog, drop me a line, and I’ll send you one.

Upcoming Trip to Europe

I will be back in Europe in late May and early June for some conferences and meetings with customers. I will be in Wroclaw, Poland, on May 30th, and in Casablanca, Morocco, on June 7th. In between, May and I will most likely spend some time in Berlin and Paris. I might also go to Dubai for a BPM seminar during the second week of June. If you live in any of these cities, let’s make sure that our paths cross each other.

Pocket Symphony

Tonight, I am listening to Pocket Symphony, the last LP from Air. As with any Air recording, I will need multiple listening sessions before I can form a solid opinion about the piece, but so far I must say that I like it. The tunes are reminiscent of Air’s later work, especially Talkie Walkie and the excellent 5:55, a collaboration with French actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg.
