Silverado

I am at the Silverado Resort in Napa, CA for a conference. This is my first trip since I started exercising on a daily basis, and following a fairly strict diet. This creates a new set of challenges that I am not totally prepared for. The place has a gym, but it does not provide the machines I am used to. The restaurant has what they call ‘alternative cuisine’, but it sounds more exotic than it is healthy. All in all, I think I will have to come up with a new set of exercising rules for when I am on the road, and bring some food with me whenever possible.

I can sympathize when it comes to sticking to a eating plan while on the road. Back in the late 90s, I became intrigued by the Body for Life program. My goal was not to lose weight but rather to get in better shape and add strength. Traveling four days a week, I was able to fit in the exercise routine, but the biggest challenge was at meal time when everyone was partaking in the wonderful menu selection and beer choices. It definitely got easier after a week or so. The key was to make sure I stuck to my 5 to 6 small meals routine so that I never showed up at the dinner table famished. Good luck, Ismael. By the way, since I doubt you need to lose weight, what are your goals for being on this program?

Kooros,

I am 33, and I want to compete in the Kona Ironman before I turn 45. I did not exercise at all since I turned 17, so I have a lot to catch up with, as you can imagine. I figured that a healthy diet was a good place to start. I can swim decently, but never rode a bike, nor ran more than three or four miles at a time. I started biking a couple of weeks ago, and got my first run earlier this morning. Let’s see where all this takes us…

Best regards

Ismael,

Best of luck to you! Keep posting on your progress, especially as you start getting into some of the intro and sprint triathlons. While I’ve always been active in sports, I have a whole different level of respect for triathletes. All the best to you!
