Sony HDR-SR1
Sony just released the HDR-SR1 camcorder, the first to record high-definition video directly to a hard disk drive. The built-in 30GB drive can record 4 hours with maximum resolution. Do I need a camcorder? You bet I do! Geek envy…

Not just a geek envy, you’ll need a camcorder when you eventually have kids and you want to keep a memory of so many precious moments that just fly way too fast…
Indeed…
Looking at the spec, it does not have a FireWire (aka iLink) port, just USB 2.0. When recording in SD, it saves as MPEG-2, which is already compressed, which is not good for video-editing (since you have to export sequences to MPEG-2). I suspect the HD mode is compressed as well and causes the same problem. It’s better to edit your videos starting with non-compresed shots (AVI).
I will have to look into this indeed…
